Jack Leach England spinner, not participate in 2nd test due to knee injury

IND vs ENG 2nd Test Match – Shoaib Bashir, his Somerset teammate at just 20 years old and a possible replacement for Jack Leach, is in line to make his international debut due to his absence due to a visa delay issue that was resolved over time. Ben Stokes, captain of England, announced on Wednesday that experienced spinner Jack Leach will no longer participate in the second Test against India due to injury; this setback caused England a setback ahead of Ind vs Eng test match.

On Sunday, during Ind vs Eng first test match , 32-year-old spinner Andrew Flintoff injured his knee. Flintoff is the most experienced spinner among England’s ranks and travelled as part of its touring squad to India.

At Hyderabad during England’s stunning victory against their hosts by 28 runs to take a 1-0 lead in their five-match series, Leach injured his knee while fielding. Later on, during the morning session of the second day of the test match, he worsened matters further.

Jack Leach injury did not prevent him from bowling ten overs during the second innings and taking Shreyas Iyer for thirteen runs as he successfully took a wicket.

Jack Leach absence from Wednesday’s training session casts serious doubt upon his participation in the second Test scheduled for February 2nd-6th in Visakhapatnam.

According to Stokes at a news conference, Rahane was “ruled out for the second Test, and hopefully, this won’t impact his participation for longer in this series.

Stokes also noted that when selecting their squad, the selection was relatively effortless because everyone was so impressed with what Bashir provided; Bashir provided all of our answers for our spin group.

Tom Hartley made an outstanding debut when Bashir was absent, and Leach was injured, helping England complete an astonishing comeback in their opening test match with India. Hartley took seven wickets and sixty-two runs as part of India’s collapse from 42-0 to all out for 202 in just 69.2 overs – his figures placed fourth best among debutant visiting bowlers in India! Their response saw them score 436 runs against England’s 246 in their first innings for an overall advantage of 190 runs over England.

England may opt for additional pace options in the bowling lineup, considering the inclusion of James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, and Gus Atkinson to partner with Mark Wood. This decision is driven by the belief that a pace-heavy attack could be a more effective strategy. Jack Leach, the primary spinner for England, sustained an injury while fielding in the first Test, limiting his bowling contributions. The injury, identified as a haematoma, has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming matches. England captain Ben Stokes provided insights into Leach’s condition, highlighting the impact of the knock on his performance in the first Test in Hyderabad.
