New points table for the IPL 2024: DC’s victory against LSG by 19 runs helps RR secure a playoff spot

Based on the IPL Points Table 2024 and Team Rankings, the victory of the Delhi Capitals over the Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs has decreased the chance of both these teams qualifying for the Playoffs.

The result of the match that took place at Arun Jaitley Stadium On the other hand, it was a great success for the Rajasthan Royals, as it enabled them to earn the playoff spot with only two games left.

After the auction where Delhi Capitals (DC) spent a whopping Rs 7.2 crore on Kumar Kushagra, back in Kolkata, Abishek Porel, watching the action with his cousin Ishan Porel, said: “Puro season bench e boshte hobe (Will have to sit on the bench the entire season).”

Abishek’s concern was justified because with Rishabh Pant back, Delhi had five wicketkeeper-batsmen in their squad. But at the pre-season camp in Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly and Pravin Amre told the youngster that he would be playing all the games and Porel repaid the trust with some impactful knocks. The youngster totalled 327 runs with a strike rate of 158.51.

On Tuesday evening, the left-hander scored his second IPL fifty in just 21 balls. Few of the shots he played through the covers would make even Ganguly proud. He whipped, caressed, swivelled, pulled and drove the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowlers with authority.

After concluding all their matches, DC has climbed to the fifth spot in the table of points. They currently share fourth spot with Sunrisers Hyderabad and third place with the Chennai Super Kings, who have 14 points. The runners-up in the 2020 race recorded an unacceptably low Net run rate of -0.377. There is only one way that DC will have any chance to win, which will be to allow SRH to lose both their games by a total of more than 200 runs.

LSG The LSG, on the other hand, experienced the most significant setback in their third loss in a row. They are currently seventh in the league, having one game left and only 12 points available. They have an NRR lower than Delhi’s (-0.787). They are scheduled to play their final match in the League Stage against Mumbai Indians players. After winning their last two games, the LSGs had the chance to make it through to the final round; however, with just one game remaining and a shaky NRR, their chances of reaching the playoffs are nearly lost.
