Ind vs Eng 3rd Test:Rohit Sharma eleventh century in test match history at Rajkot

Rohit Sharma made history on Thursday at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot when he recorded his eleventh hundred in test matches – India’s captain had made history for himself by scoring eleven hundreds during all of these tests.

As India decided to bat after winning the toss, they experienced three early setbacks, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rajat Patidar leaving early due to poor performances. Rohit scored his maiden half-century of the series, joining Ravindra Jadeja at 33 for three, leading them up until Lunch at 93 for three – ultimately sealing victory for India and taking them through to win this series 3-2.

Rohit found relief early in the 27th when Joe Root failed to take an essential catch at first slip. Later in that over, Joel Wilson overruled James Anderson’s leg-before-wicket call, which had hit a nick off the inside edge; Rohit successfully appealed the ruling after reviewing it.

Rohit and Jadeja’s partnership was further cemented during the second session when India scored 92 runs without conceding a wicket and made history by becoming the first team in this series to score 100 runs in one inning.

Rohit reached his third Test ton as captain by hitting 11 fours and two sixes in just 157 deliveries – all during the third play session.

Rohit also reached the milestone of 1000 runs against England during this innings, doing so over 23 innings with three centuries and four fifties scored among them.

Rohit has upheld his title of most prolific century-maker among all openers in the World Test Championship since 2019, holding this title through three cycles. Since then, the 36-year-old has hit eight hundred and eight fifties across 50 innings during this tournament.

Rohit eclipsed MS Dhoni (78) to become India’s second-highest six-hitter in Test cricket; only Virender Sehwag (91) has hit more sixes than Rohit.

Rohit has now overtaken Sourav Ganguly (18,575) to become India’s fourth-highest run scorer in international cricket – coming fourth behind Sachin Tendulkar (24,208 runs), Virat Kohli (26,733), Rahul Dravid (24,208) who currently heads India as their head coach and Rahul Dravid who held this record before him.

Rohit had also overtaken Dhoni with 218 sixes scored during international cricket, second only to Eoin Morgan (234).

Eoin Morgan holds the record for international cricket with 233 sixes from 180 innings (233 sixes).

Rohit Sharma (121)* and MS Dhoni (330) scored 211. At number 171, Ricky Ponting (376) finished as number one.

Rohit’s century was his 42nd as an international opener – matching Chris Gayle. Only Sachin Tendulkar (45) and David Warner (49) have amassed more international tons than any other openers.

Rohit made history again by becoming the oldest Indian captain to score an international hundred, surpassing Vijay Hazare’s mark of 51 when he achieved it at 36 years and 278 days against England.

At Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, India and England are playing their third test match of cricket. As of late afternoon on September 13, India had reached 158 wickets lost, with Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma, captain of their respective teams, forming an effective combination to get off to a good start after Lunch despite an early loss of wickets during the opening session of match play. At 33 runs, they lost their third wicket before their partnership saw 100 runs scored together by them over the next hour or so.

At first, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Dhruv Jurel kept wickets while Sarfaraz Khan batted, making their international test match debut for India.

Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja led India back onto a healthy path on Thursday, the opening day of their third test match against England. They set an encouraging example to guide a substantial recovery for India that saw them reach 185/3 at teatime.

Rohit Sharma scored his eleventh century in test matches shortly after tea, surpassing 100 runs. Jadeja (batting 68) managed his 21st half-century by following up on a hint from his captain.
